Afro-Caribbean Community Night Press Release
Are you a long-time fan of Afro-Caribbean music and dance? Maybe you’ve never experienced Afro-Caribbean music or dance, but you’re looking to try something new. Well, look no further than Eastern Connecticut State University’s Afro-Caribbean Community Night. On April 4, from 5-7 p.m. in the lobby of the Fine Arts Instructional Center, you can experience music and dance performed by local children from Puentes al Futuro, or “Bridges to the Future”, a Windham Middle School afterschool program that is supported by Eastern students volunteering with the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). The event will feature live music from local musician Arnaldo Rivera and his band Bentetu, who teach percussion in the Puentes al Futuro program. Some of Rivera’s students will join him in a musical performance unlike any other. Windham Middle School teacher and choreographer Yusomil Benet, along with Eastern students Tayla Bogle and Jackie Varian will also be leading the students through a salsa dance. This event is open and free to all members of the community, and refreshments will be provided. So don’t miss this unique opportunity, join us for our celebration of Afro-Caribbean culture. We hope to see you there!
